Re: 145 Idle Problems - Rev's Its self??

hey guys, just signed up, got my V reg 145 Cloverleaf 2.0 on saturday, its a dream car! apart from the same idle fault youve all been discussing, just tried that throttle (butterfly) clean up, didnt make a difference.. same symptoms, stop at traffic lights and it revs itself, 1500 2000 even 3000rpm, someone mentioned lambda sensor..but im not really that clued up.. So shall i do as the other gentleman did and buy a new throttle body?
The fella who sold me the car had fitted a K&N air filter, thats the only mod engine wise i think, could this be the problem? should I reset ECU V.confused! Help!

Re: 145 Idle Problems - Rev's Its self??

Id try getting a second hand throttle body and trying that..

eBay is your best bet (thats where I got mine), there are quite a few people on there breaking 145's and 146's (they are basically the same car)...

I have heard Autolusso (I think its spelt right) is very good for spare parts, if no luck on ebay (cheapest option), then try Autolusso - Auto Lusso - Quality Alfa Romeo Servicing and Repairs

If that doesnt work id try a new air mass meter

Either way, replacing these two parts is alot cheaper than getting a diagnostic..plus then you have to buy the replacement parts on top! I think one guy on here said he spent like £200 getting sorted what cost me £7.50!

That sounds about right for fuel economy, I mainly drive round town and get 120-130 miles to £30, on a run il probs get about 170 miles to £30..

(my last car was a focus tdci, I got 230 miles to £30! oh well..)

Re: 145 Idle Problems - Rev's Its self??

aaah thats a piece of mind, thought id bought a lemon its a cracking little hatch, in that mint yellow colour, ive never seen one before! Im gunna have another bash at cleaning that butterfly tonight, bought some actual carb cleaner, think i was to gentle with the WD40 the other night! hope it works, also, i have a black button on my red alfa key, makes a red LED light up (on key) but doesnt do anything!! central locking works with the key turned in the door tho...altho iv been readin some of these posts and it seems its another common prob! maybe best getting a clifford or toad fitted? intellistart would be cool on this! I had one on my Civic 91! Cheers mate

Re: 145 Idle Problems - Rev's Its self??

Glad you like it, I had never seen one before I bought mine either!

As for the alarm problem...! EXACTLY the same as my car when I bought it 2 months ago..
I have just fitted (myself) an alarm with remote start + pager etc. I have made a how to guide on how to fit it and what all the wire colours, locations etc are. I just need to finish it and I will be posting it on here if you fancy having a go.. It took me a day and a half to install but that was because I had to find out where all the wires are etc so I reckon it shouldnt take as long as me (maybe less than a day), its easy aswel because most of the wires are in the boot from the old alarm anyway!

Re: 145 Idle Problems - Rev's Its self??

It Sounds like you could have a sensor problem....with either the airflow meter or a temperature sensor faulty...problem is it could be anything from lamdor probes to air leaks on a vacuum pipe.
