146 Engine cuts out

I'm about to start work on getting a 146 running again.

At the moment my main concern is the engine. When it is started (after a long struggle) it sounds like it is struggling to run. Almost as if it's running out of petrol. And before you say anything, yes there is plenty of petrol in it Eventually it cuts out.

If it is revved then it has slow accel in the rev. As if it's going up a very steep hill in too high a gear. During the rev it will still cough. After a few seconds it'll cut out.

I'm assuming it may be a fuel intake problem? I have bought a new fuel filter to go on soon. What other areas should I check?

When was the last time it had a good run manson. If its been standing for a couple of months it could be riddled with damp on the electrical side of things!

Re: 146 Engine cuts out

What state is it in generally? Does it have any oil in it? Is it firing on all 4 cylinders? Is there a birds nest in the air filter box? Which engine does it have? If TS I would check sensors first before embarking on trying to change fuel filters; they're sealed units on most anyway. Does the injector light go out while it's (briefly) running? Can you access any OBD software?

Re: 146 Engine cuts out

These problems all starting happening when it was in constant use. Obviously I can't get the engine running so can't give it a run either =/

It's the 2.0 TS. Where would the sensors be?? Any idea? This is a whole new model to me. Used to working on my 155.

Re: 146 Engine cuts out

Technically the 155 and 146 ts engines are virtually identical. Try running it with the MAF unplugged (MAF sensor is that bulge on the air pipe between the air filter assembly and inlet manifold). Brass tacks first though: is the air filter itself serviceable?

Another usual suspect would be the lamda, especially as that is v temperature sensitive...

Try reseting the crash switch under the passengers seat.
