Re: key wont work/alarm immoboliser
On your 145 your immo and alarm are two completely separate devices. If you're talking about the battery in the remote, then I assume that you're talking of the alarm. Simply replacing the battery should suffice. The TRW alarm system needs no further synchronising. It may just be that the remote itself is defective, possibly a dry joint on the PCB, a component that fell off or a faulty microswitch.

Re: key wont work/alarm immoboliser
Yeah i have been told the keys are prone to some solcer contacts breaking away or gunk getting into the switch. Take it apart and have a look for crap in there or for any loose solder connections

Does the red LED flicker or is that dead also?.
If dead then try the connections as above.
If its live then it could have got out of sync with car and you will need the unlock code to get it going.

Re: key wont work/alarm immoboliser
if the light only came on breifly after covering the whole curcuit with foil that indicates a contact problem. only problem you now have is that by joining all the components together at the same time in no order you may have fried something

Re: key wont work/alarm immoboliser
Just go over all the solder gently pushing with a tooth pick or something and if any of them moves it needs re-soldering

My remote has a problem with the remote/alarm. The red light light does flash, but nothing happens. How do I fix this with the codes?
Thanks

Do you have the 4-digit code tags that came with the original keys (one tag for each key, both with a different code on)?

Re: key wont work/alarm immoboliser
No, I only have a code card that comes with the car, thats all. There's mechanical and electrical codes on it. Havent heard of code tags that i should have for my keys. Wont the code card work for atleast one of the keys?

No, the CODE card is only for the immobiliser (the alarm and immobiliser are 2 completely separate systems). If you don't have the 4-digit code tags for the alarm then you won't be able to reprogram your keys against the alarm system yourself. These codes are needed to 'open' the programming mode of the alarm remote receiver so that new or existing keys can be programmed in.
Your only real option other than replacing all the alarm system components is Tony at Datarecall Services as he can read the codes transmitted from your current keys or get the codes already stored in the remote receiver itself (the unit in the roof just in front of the rear view mirror). However, he's in the UK so I'm not sure how convienient this would be what with you being in SA.

Re: key wont work/alarm immoboliser
If you can find someone locally to read the 93c46 i.c. inside the receiver and email me with the .bin file, I will send you the unlock codes free of charge.
Tony.

Re: key wont work/alarm immoboliser
If you have the original alarm system still, you can go to your Alfa dealer and they CAN get the code for you, it will cost you a few pennies but the code is vital if those 2 fuses haven't blown.
But there are still a few wiring checks to be carried out before you worry about programming.

That's interesting. All of the past stories I've heard where people have gone to the dealer with this problem is that they just get told they have to replace the remote receiver, alarm box and also get new keys (£600+). Codes for the 145/146 aren't stored in any databases as the cars are too old so the only way to get the codes would be to extract them from the receiver unit. AFAIK dealers don't have the equipment or know-how to do this. If they do then most dealers certainly aren't disclosing that fact thus the offered solution of expensive replacement parts.
Do you know how the dealer can get the lost codes? Is there some diagnostic equipment that is actually extract these from the system?

The original Examiner had the facility to read the code, but if they contact Alfa Italia they can get the code as there is a database that has the code, I've gotten mine that way before, there is also a large cabinet at ARUK with the code cards in that they didn't pass on to the customers because the UK insurance companies didn't want the owners to have them.

CODE cards yes...I do know people who have managed to get those via an Alfa dealer for ~£15 but as for the alarm codes I don't know anyone who has managed to get these and it hasn't been through lack of trying. There are a few threads on this and the other forum about the subject. Which dealer was it who managed to get yours?
Alfa UK have categorically stated that they only hold codes in their database for newer cars (IIRC someone posted up a reply email from ARUK). The 145's & 146's are too old and according to ARUK, codes for UK sold cars apparently weren't logged back in those days so aren't available. Maybe they're just being lazy and can't be arsed to call up the Italian HQ. Probably just easier (and more money to be made) by just telling customers they have to spend £600 on replacement parts

Fish Bros, Swindon, 2 years ago and it was definately the Alarm code as I already had the immob one.
