Run the quote again but take your parents off. Then post how much it is.

3rd party or comprehensive?

Lol! Don't worry mate. If you are seriously looking at a GTA, you might want to get a 2 litre for a year or two first. I'm just going to wait until I'm 25 when the insurance is cheaper!!!

I don't think anyone suggested that you do. I'm only 22 and would love to drive a GTA. However it's the people that do drive like maniacs that means I have to pay such a disgusting premium to drive a nice car.

In addition, Adrian Flux haven't been very good for us "under 25's" the quote I had from them was about 400 quid over my insurer!!

Do a quote on confused.com. It worked for me!!

Re: Insurance quotes..OUCH!

For me its more of the fact that we have had Alfa's in the family for as long as i can remember and i have always had a passion for them.

For the last 4 years of my life i have wanted one its not about the speed for me - its the look and sound of such a beautiful car and engine.

Well I'm afraid unless you are minted, it's gonna be a few years before You get one . I couldn't afford the insurance on a 2.5 when I found one... It's a bugger.

More correctly it is an abbreviation of

Taken Without Owner's Consent...

Technically 3 years, but that quote is only based on 2yrs as it was too much of a pain in the arse to get my last year of NCB transferred from Luxembourg back to the UK.

Although Chris Knott is the broker the policy is actually with Highway Insurance. Had never heard of them previously and im not sure if they sell policies or underwrite only, but maybe its another avenue you can pursue?

BTW yes I am 23

You sound surprised. It is a ridiculous amount for insurance, i agree, but given your criteria you can't blame them for asking high premiums. Out of curiosity, what has been your best quote so far?

My advice; find the best quote possible from another insurer, call AF back and they will beat your best price. Always have for me.

I have cause to disagree with you there; Although i am now 25, i was insured prior to being 25 through Flux and they were very competitive (as are they now). Nobody else could even get close to them on price a couple of years ago, however the playing field is levelling as i'm getting older.

Just renewed my policy through them today as it happens.

The best so far has been around £1,700 but most are about £2,000

Thats quite a big drop for AF to match though!

Trust me, try them! From my dealings with them, their philiosophy seems to be, 'give us your best shot and we'll beat it.'

Plus the level of cover they have given has been very good - including 3rd party cover on other cars (something which many insurers don't offer at all now, or require you to be 25 to qualify for), comes in handy every now and again!

Re: Insurance quotes..OUCH!

surely they wont be that interested to have me on board??

statistically im not exactly the most desirable customer.

If i wasnt going to drive a GTA it would be something like a Focus RS or ST but in my opinion they are just ugly manufactured cars with no soul. i just dont get a warm feeling inside or a smile on my face when i drive them...

im prepared to pay the extra insurance cost but i just want to get it down as much as possible because obviously nobody wants to pay over the odds for insurance..

Money is money, doesn't matter where it comes from and that's what they are in business for. They have always had favourable rates for Alfa drivers, even before AO got affiliated with them, and i think thats largely due to the fact that the majority of (but not all) Alfa owners are enthusiasts and drivers therefore they probably don't see that type of customer as high risk - compared with all the John Doe's who, after nervously scraping through their tests drive kia's or ka's because they are a cheap means of getting from A-B.

As a benchmark for prices;
My best mate bought a GTA at 22, and as he has just told me paid £1100 with Direct Line but that was with 5years NCB.

I bought my 2.0 Sele' at 21 with 3 years NCB and paid around £900, maybe could have got it for less but i was already in contract with Admiral from my previous car.

For decent quotes try Sainsbury's with just you to drive, and also Admiral with both parents as drivers if their licences are clean.

They won't get anywhere near that.

I think you are maybe overseeing that ashlez has no NCB. As you know the insurance companies love their NCB. They are not required to have these by law and therefore use them purely to see the regular non risk drivers are. Therefore anyone under the age of 25 will have a much tougher time in the first 3 years or so of driving. Fact. (Reflective in the statement you made above)
