Wave So who took out insurance through Adrian flux / AO Club?

Hi all,

I hope you are all enjoying a nice discount on your car insurances... If you have taken out a policy from March 2007 onwards, please can you tell us by replying here so that we can check the stats with AF.

Regards to you all,

Ian

Re: So who took out insurance through Adrian flux / AO Club?

Hi,

I dont know if its useful/what you want to hear but I found Flux about as useful as a chocolate teapot - couldnt even beat my quote from Tesco for Gawds sake!!

As an aside, I mentioned the club/website to Chris Knott brokers and they were happy to give a club discount - which = Guaranteed 10% better than any ohter genuine quote.

Has AO thought about doing a partnership with Chris Knott? - I know that AROC do.

Adrian Flux couldn't get anywhere near the quote I received from Admiral. In fact it was a good £400 more.

Re: So who took out insurance through Adrian flux / AO Club?

People seem bemused when a 'cheap' insurer can't offer them a competitive quote, but it's not really surprising.
At any given point, a company will be aiming at a particular set of demographics, for whatever reason. Equally, they will be avoiding another set of demographics. If you're in the latter camp, then it doesn't matter how much of a discount they give you, they're unlikely to be competitive.
The proviso is - their chosen demographics change all the time, depending on where in the market they feel they need to catch up, so just because they're no good for you one year, doesn't mean you shouldn't try them the next.

So, if they didn't give you a good quote, doesn't mean they're crap, just means they're not suitable for you this year.

Re: So who took out insurance through Adrian flux / AO Club?

I have to agree. The price I was quoted by Flux was about £150 more than my usual broker and the attitude was to say the least one of disinterest. As far as Chris Knott are concerned, when I spoke to them last year the ‘specialist’ told me there was no such car as the S4 spider. I have very little faith in any of the so called club insurances and consider them a great sales and marketing tool for the company. As an experiment we phoned one of the so called specialists last year and managed to obtain a better price then offered as club members. Hence I stick with my little broker from year to year, but I always check with the so called specialists as a comparison. Bottom line…….shop around.

Without wishing to go 'Off-Topic' (as perhaps AO only wanted people who had actually taken out their insurance with Adrian Flux to post here) although I stuck with Chris Knott this time I found AF to be very competitive

Re: So who took out insurance through Adrian flux / AO Club?

I changed to Chris Knott this year - I tried Adrian Flux but they weren't competitive.

As Kevin says, sorry to go off-topic, but I guess perhaps knowing that people gave AF a go but ended up going elsewhere is maybe useful feedback too?

I've been with AF for the past couple of years and they are buy far the cheapest on my modified 147. That's the point any other insurer see's the word modification and doubles your insurance cos your a boy racer and will crash every day.

Very true and I understand completely, but then whats the point in offering discounts for club memberships, having tie-ins etc? As far as I can tell if AF have a deal with Alfaowner then anyone who is a member of this site should be in their 'demographic', otherwise they should be completely clear and state that its for members of Alfaowner who also happen to be 35, white, male, trombone playing, heterosexual, plumber with 3 years no claims and no accidents*.

I think its cheeky to use such a catch all if in reality they cant give the bulk of people a good quote - and by the sounds of it they cant!

*for example

-1998 916 Spider 2.0TS Lusso-
Polybushed rear end -- Wiechers strut brace
Ragazzon Alfisti.net edition centre pipe -- Biscione Racing 128x80mm rear section.
6000k HIDS -- Novitec Filter / resonators removed.
Eibach PRO -20mm & KYB shocks -- 15mm hubcentric spacers -- 17" multispoke alloys with 225 Eagle F1s

€25k spent in repairs and upgrades since 2007 :S

Re: So who took out insurance through Adrian flux / AO Club?

I took out a policy with AF on the 30th March or so this year, being a young driver on a group 14 insurance car, they got me a quote for £450, my renewal with Nationwaide was £880. I used all the 'compare the market' sites and no-one could find me a better deal. I'll try Chris Knott next time too, but am pretty confident that AF will come through again.

I joined AF about 3 hours ago. My best quote before AF was standing at £1.3k!! AF quoted me around £950. This is by far the best quote I have ever had on the 155!!

Re: So who took out insurance through Adrian flux / AO Club?

Im currently with adrian flux after seeing it in the Insurance section on this site, i called the number for alfa insurance and told them i was a member. I was so impressed with there service, The price was the cheapest i have found. I was with the RAC who sent me a renewal quote through the post, i Rang AF and they beat there price by ... wait for it- £ 600, Best insurance company ive ever used.

Well thats all great feedback, but isnt it interesting how different the replies are. I suppose it depends on the price as to how happy or annoyed you feel and who you are speaking with.

Re: So who took out insurance through Adrian flux / AO Club?

For the past 2 years I've had my GTV insured through Chris Knott and the premium has been very competitive particularly as the car has been modified. I wouldn't call a s/s sports exhaust a high performance mod, but most of the popular insurers either refused to quote or were off the scale! It's renewal time very shortly so will be interesting to see how CK reacts to the recently added Koni shox. I will get a comparison from Adrian Flux anyway.

Re: So who took out insurance through Adrian flux / AO Club?

Ian I'll refer you back to this:

http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-...ewal-time.html

I must say the difference I found most noticeable between CKI and AF was that CKI were prepared to try and keep my business but didn't just under cut, whereas AF gave it one shot and gave up. I like to deal with people who appear to 'want' to deal with me. A take it or leave it attitude tends to help me to leave it

Next year it should be different again when I move to Bristol. Unless World War Three breaks out there in the mean time I ought to see a dramatic reduction in my premium

I'll probably give AF another go at quoting but my guess is the battle for my business will be between the AA and CKI because they seem to actually want my money.

Re: So who took out insurance through Adrian flux / AO Club?

Have just tried AF and half of the worlds insurance companies for a quote. Being 21 and with no 'no claims' I probably fall in to the highest risk group.

Flux couldn't match my quote, nor could CKI. However the gent from flux tried his upmost for me - A little effort is always appreciated CKI even went as far as to say that it wasn't worth going through the details as it would be off the scale. At least he was honest

Have to honest and say that I wasn't really expecting any 'good' quotes. Going from a Corsa to an Alfa was always going to be silly money.

Re: So who took out insurance through Adrian flux / AO Club?

I reinsured with AF this year and saved about £300.

Pretty good service - nice to deal with.

My older insurer who I had been with since I was about 12 made no effort to better their quote. Bit sad really. :-(

Re: So who took out insurance through Adrian flux / AO Club?

Adrian Flux got my Sprint insurance sorted out just fine weren't quite the cheapest, but only by around a tenner. Although I will say when asked about my 156 he said he couldn't get near the price i'm paying now, maybe the 'classic' car market is more what they specialise in?

Re: So who took out insurance through Adrian flux / AO Club?

I didn't go with AF, but they were cheaper. It came down to laziness, they were only better than Admiral by about £10 and with admiral giving me an extra 1000miles on my policy for the tenner I stuck with them.

I did find AF helpful though, and have used them before.

Re: So who took out insurance through Adrian flux / AO Club?

They wouldn't quote for trackday cover..... but only when I mentioned I drove an Alfa.

My mate is with AF and has extra track cover for a Mitsubishi Evo, so why no Alfa cover?

The guy I spoke to was a to$$er, no manners, not very interested, so I won't waste my time trying AF again.

Re: So who took out insurance through Adrian flux / AO Club?

Have just renewed my GTV insurance with CKI, as the premium is competitive, I don't have to deal with foreign call centres, and there was no additional premium when I told them about new Koni shock absorbers. Am now getting quotations for the 166 3.0 Super, and CKI is cheaper than Adrian Flux by about 25%.
