confused.com

Always compare your renewal quote with other insurance companies, don’t get lazy!!

I've just had my renewal through from Adrian Flux whom I have used on a regular basis over the last say, 10 years and they have always been very competitive (I have always phoned around to check their prices). The renewal came in at £813.76 which is a lot higher than I am used to paying as this is my first full year for the GT. Last year my premium was approx £450 for an X-Type.

So I decided to use confused.com for the first time to try and get my insurance quote down and it came up trumps!!

The quote was from Admiral for £576.45, and this includes the recent modifications I‘ve had done (uprated front brake pads & FSD shock absorbers). I phoned Adrian Flux and they have miraculously improved on the Admiral quote by £16 by changing to NIG from Royal Sun Alliance.

Although I am happy that I have, in the end, got a very good insurance quote (which I can be sure is the cheapest out there, as confused.com checked about 30 other companies) it does strike me as a little lazy of AF to only check the market place for a cheaper renewal quote when the customer comes up with their own cheaper quote. I thought that was supposed to be the job of the broker?

Re: confused.com

I use it every year.
I'm presently with 'more-than'.
When I got my last annual renewal with them, I ran the figures through confused. More Than was still the cheapest, but via confused, it was £80 cheaper than my renewal quote from them!
I phoned them up to query this, & they said 'yes, thats because thats a new customer quote, not a customer renewing an existing quote. Even though I confirmed that they were already my existing insurance company. Anyway, More Than said that the best thing for me to do was to cancel my existing contract with them, & start a new contract, to get the new client discount. So much for the importance of keeping existing customers happy! Anyway, as advised, I cancelled my existing contract, & immediately started another one with them, & saved £80. What a weird way to run a business!
Matt.

I used to use More Than for my Alfa - but when I got the Larini Exhaust and K & N airfilter fitted to the GTV they said they couldn't cover modified cars!

i always use moneysupermarket.com and screentrade.co.uk both of which, for me anyway, have proved cheaper than confused.

Re: confused.com

Yup, used confused dot com for 5 years - always workes well for me, although it does mean changing insurance companies evry year, which has proved to a real pain in the arse twice when they wouldnt except the paper work relating to my no claims bonus! I'm clucking this year and not clicking - hope I dont have to use the policy, always wary of new companies!

Hi,

Thanks for your comments,

We try to give the best prices and that is why we will ask what the best price is that you have had. That way we can refer it to the insurers and see if they can compete.

Cheers,Dan

Re: confused.com

I appreciate it is hard to keep tabs of every insurers prices but ...

I got an AF quote which was not competitive, used confused.com got a great quote from Admiral and then signed up.

You may be able to fight for your existing customers but how many prospective new customers have passed by?

I would say that in this day and age of online market checking tools I am unlikely to approach AF again as the one time I tried, I felt I had wasted my time. It also took two days to get a response, as opposed to 2 minutes.

Maybe your brokers could use the online tools to ensure the quote you are returning is competitive?

Hopefully this feedback is useful to you.

Hi,
Many thanks for your comments and all feedback is helpful good or bad.
sadly we dont have the resources to be checking all insurance companies so we rely on our insurers giving us their best quotes but there are margins for when renewing and quoting etc.
I also apologise about the delay it took in you getting a response back from us.
Dan.

Re: confused.com

Confused.com came up over £100 more than I'm paying at the moment. Wouldn't recommend them myself.

I'm currently insured with Budget. Their quote on Confused.com was £50 less than the quote they gave me personally!

Re: confused.com

When I phoned Admiral after they came up cheapest on confused.com, they said that you automatically get a 5% discount through confused.com, I take it you would have to ask for a discount if going direct to Admiral or any other company.

I have used confused.com on to get cheaper quotes than my renewal, then using these quotes, Adrian Flux have found even cheaper insurance for me.

Confused.com are expensive, wanted £580 for comp with 8yrs NCD. Screentrade where cheap, but are so so now. I went to moneysupermarket.com and they got me quote with Esure for £260. Magic £400 cheaper!!! for the same cover!!

Re: confused.com

Loyality counts for nothing anymore, you have be an insurance tart every year.

Having said that, both ebike insurance and ecar insurance came back with unbeatable renewals (by substantial margins) for the bike and cars this year without any prompting.

Re: confused.com

Quick question padders, I found ecar insurance to be substantially cheaper then the majority of insurance companies I got quotes from - I have arranged car insurance through them on the pay as you go plan. Just wondering if you have to pay a deposit or if you pay the monthly amount from the start?

Many Thanks

Matt

Re: confused.com

Paid annually up front, so can't help you there.

I would add that I had to make a claim on their policy, and that went through smoothly too.

Re: confused.com

Ah right - my quotes come out at £1746 so it'll be monthly for me!

Thats what you get for being 21 with no NCD insuring a group 13 car !

Ecar seem to be good though, you can earn a years no claims discount after 8 months.

Re: confused.com

Just be careful with how much extra paying monthly cost.

Insurance companies can be a bit naughty about this.

It'll probably be cheaper to get a loan and then pay annually.

Re: confused.com

Sites like Confused.com are good but I agree with the person who said that Moneysupermarket.com is better.
It asks for less information and returns offers from more insurers in my experience.

Another tip is to go the extra mile and haggle further with the insurer who returns the best premium.

I have just insured a Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo for under £250 using this method Still pinching myself & expecting to wake up
