Nope,

You can only drive there car if there car as got full insurance in there name.
If u crash it will only covered 3rd party.

driving under your insurance, you will be insured for third party only - the legal minimum. if you are a named driver, you have the same level of cover as the policy holder, so if you crash the car, or its stolen in your possession, you can still claim.

Adding a named driver, in my experience has brought the overall cost of Insurance down. I'm named on my Girlfriends cover and she on mine. We both are paying less because of that and it also means we can hop into each others cars if we need to with out much worry.

Re: add a named driver or not... confused???

2.4jtd, as has been said already you would only be covered as a 3rd party risk by your insurance company on the other vehicle.
The positive's for being added as a named driver are that you would be covered at whatever level the vehicle is insured to and the policy holder could also get a discounted premium.
Most insurers now actually give a discount for having a named driver.

Hello,

I would advise checking your Documents first about the Driving Other Cars benefit as not all Insurers will offer it despite you being over 25,
Also you and the car would only be covered third Party.

However if you are a named driver on the policy you would get whatever cover the Policy holder has.(i.e Third party Fire and Theft or Comprehensive) Which is a big benefit if you were unlucky enough to have an accident.

Regards,
Dan.

Re: add a named driver or not... confused???

Interesting thread ... GF and I have got each other as named drivers on our policies because it doesn't cost anything, simples!

But, if I smash her car up for her, does my no-claims go down the pan as well as hers? Or just the main policy on the car (hers)? Or the policy of the driver (mine)? I'm confused.com

Also, what are these multicar policies companies seem to be offering? If one of us has a smash, do we both lose our no-claims? Can you protect the NCB? Been driving 11 years and never had to make a claim sio I don't really know how it works, just go for the cheapest every time. I've never protected it before but the odds are stacking up against me the longer I go without an accident so it might be worth thinking about protection.
