Who Else insures modified alfas at reasonable prices?

i have emailed AF for a quote, and A-Plan, mods declared, but who else is there that will touch modified alfas, and not charge an extortionate price?

i have seen mentions of companies on here, but most ask you to declare that your car has not been modified before they quote you.

Saint Paul international specialise in modified cars.
You have to declare everything.

Re: Who Else insures modified alfas at reasonable prices?

ooh thats just annoyed the hell out of me. Adrian Flux sent a quote out to me in the post after emailing me the above quote on TPFT for £432.45, but the written quote had the car wrong, the reg wrong, and i was told by the advisor i spoke to that my accident wasnt recorded correctly. after getting the details right, my quote has gone up to £760-something for TPFT or £1230 for comp cover.

that has really wound me up. i now have to ring round other companies-again-to get quotes, after most have said they couldnt compete with £432.

waste of a day's phoning yesterday.

Dan from AF, anything you can do?

Re: Who Else insures modified alfas at reasonable prices?

ok, AF unable to do anything about their "error", even though all details were given correctly at the time of the quote...

more than will not give me an online quote for a standard car, so doubt i can get one with mods...

One of the main things to check, is if the policy actually covers the mods too. Many insurers dont even though they charge you extra for them....

Re: Who Else insures modified alfas at reasonable prices?

RE St Pauls - They can only be dealt with through an insurance broker I think,
or at least that used to be the case years ago.

They were part of the "Travellers Insurance company LTD".

I think this Travelers Ireland
is the Irish site, but they are a huge international company and AFAIK do lots of specialist insurance in the UK.

BTW they might have dropped the St. Pauls bit from their name recently perhaps?

My current 2008 insurance cert has
"Travelers Insurance Company LTD" on it.

My 2007 one had
"St Paul Travelers Insurance Company LTF"

And an earlier one had
St Paul International Insurance Company LTD

So maybe the St Pauls name was being absorbed into the Travelers brand or something.

Sorry I cant be more helpful, since I have had no direct dealings with them myself, I just dealt with my insurance broker.

I'm sure folks on the Pistonheads forum or similar might have ready local info for you..

Cheers,
TB

yep, was just about to put u onto them, Greenlight. The way they see it is, if you're gonna spend thousands modding ur motor, ur gonna look after it and they do like for like. I'm with them AF quoted me £1600 fully comp with all my mods but GL was £597

Re: Who Else insures modified alfas at reasonable prices?

traders policies are good food for thought when deciding on insurance, a friend of mine who buys and sells 6 of my trade cars a year has opted for a fully comp traders policy for less than the cost of insuring one of his three cars but all are covered !!My traders policy has exceptions wont do imprezzas or very high performance but covers any car or bike fully comp .Rules govern how you impliment cover during changes so you must keep on top of comms with your broker.Equity red star are good if im allowed to name them.??

Re: Who Else insures modified alfas at reasonable prices?

the strange thing is you can be a part time trader and operate from home. so you could sell four cars a year or sixty.another fact is that you dont have to register a car in your name as its covered under your policy handy for taxing cars or giving traffic wardens a hard time, incidentally i dont park illegally

Re: Who Else insures modified alfas at reasonable prices?

ok, getting somewhere. adrian flux say £760, greenlight say £897(!) and a-plan say £600ish, but i have to ring back within 30 days of needing cover so they can ring round and see if they can do anything for me.

looking like a-plan so far..got chris knott to ring still.

Re: Who Else insures modified alfas at reasonable prices?

the cheapest for me were Sky Insurance (no connection to the evil TV company).

£975 when Adrian was quoting £1300!

And they replace the mods like for like.

Re: Who Else insures modified alfas at reasonable prices?

going to be A-plan i think, cover with ensign, 598 (600-ish they said previously ) 200 XS, TPFT policy, like-for-like cover on the modifications.

im 24, one years NCB, 1 fault accident claim, 1 SP30. annoying thing is i cant get a discount for turning 25 6 weeks into my policy.

Re: Who Else insures modified alfas at reasonable prices?

woop, back down to £526.50 with AF and a limited mileage policy (5000). seeing as ive only done around 3800 miles since getting the car, and my insurance needs renewing in two weeks, i think 5000 will be enough.
