Some guy at another Alfa garage told me that it is possible that the procedure for changing the timing belt _can_ lead to valve damage when it's not properly done. So, the garage who did the work on the distribution claiming that the timing is fine, might be right. However, if they made a slight mistake during the procedure, it's not entirely impossible that they damaged one of the valves in one of the cylinders...

Still, there's hardly any way for me to actually proof that the engine was running fine before, and that the engine trouble is caused by a mistake they made...

PS To think that I sold my MGF because it was becoming too expensive in maintenance and bought an Alfa Romeo.... What was I thinking?????
