Hi All

Last two days noticed a slight hesitation at 5,000 rpm, I have searched through quite a few posts about this. It seems common issue is the MAF.

So I went to disconnect the MAF, however I can't disconnect it! Very embarrassing I know but I just cant seem to release the plug! :cheese: Any help?

Picture shows the view from above.

Thanks

The MAF is quite hard to do on the V6! Nearly guarantee it will be the MAF. The sensor is quite expensive, but if you don't mind a bit of a fiddle it is the same sensor as a 2lt twin spark CF3 engine. I got a working second hand sensor for a much lower price. Do check that you air filter is the correct one, mine was knackered by a mechanic fitting the wrong size.

I'm really not sure that is true. I've had my car for 9 years and followed the "sensitive maf" issue all that time and no-one has mentioned it being interchangeable with another Alfa - quite the opposite. However, the same innards are used on some GM engines (Astra diesel I believe!) and it is immensely cheaper in that box than in an Alfa one.

Do I just need to perseveer to disconnect it? Wiggle it about :cheese:

Thanks for the offer of your used one, although after doing the test (and it indicating its the MAF) I will look to get a new one rather than used. Probably one of the Vauxhall Bosch ones people seem to be talking about being the same.

But firstly I have to disconnect it to test. . .:(

I am running a ph2 1999 v6, will that be CF2 engine? How do I know which MAF to buy?

My TS had some hesitation at about 5000rpm and felt sometimes like it was bouncing off the redline at these revs and that the tachometer hadn't caught up; I used some gaffer tape for a day or two and my GTV is now with my mechanic being serviced until Satuday. I will let you know what he decided to do with it.

Regards,

George

That'll be it. They are not available anymore. Autolusso supply some silicone versions but not sure they have one for the V6 - have a word with them. Plenty of people have made their own if you do some searching.

If you do need a maf search out the threads that identify the correct GM one - think there is more in the V6 lounge.

I put heavy duty insulation tape over the hole for a temporary fix until I source the part. (Not going to be airtight but certianly better than it was with the gaping hole.

Since putting the tape - No hesitation anymore and the car feels quite a bit more powerful! Would the hole in the induction pipe have reduced the power?

Hopefully I just need the pipe and not the MAF aswell.

Most certainly. You are introducing un metered air after the MAF and the mixture becomes very diluted. There is also a danger of burning valves with a too lean burn mix.

I used a 120 degree x 76 mm ID silicone hose to replace mine and it has been fine. You may have to rig something up for the cam box breather hose. I used a mini filter and so far all is well. I have about 3000 Km on her with this set up.

Mine is on a T Spark, but I am sure that you'll get the general concept.

Would that be via the 15mm hose that "t"s off from the plastic fitting? It ends just above the TB intake.

Would it then be of no harm and in fact be beneficial to plug the cam box vent rather?

I am getting about 33 mpg on the open road, but I do feel that low end ( under 3000 rpm ) is a bit gutless. Once she revs up past 4000 rpm she really pulls like a train right up to the red, with no hesitation or flat spots.

Appreciate your advice.

Finally this is sorted. Autolusso only just got the pipes in themselves after having them made.

Fitted this weekend and here is the result. Looks quite good, and also asked for the resonator to be blanked out when they make the pipe. Result.

Although the tape worked and served the purpose the noise of the engine now has more growl from the CDA and it pulls better now there is no leak (taped or not). :D

Only thing I would recommend, make sure you have hose clips big enough to fit the silicone tube, I had to source them from Forge Motorsport (Turbo specialists).

So if your pipe has split on the V6, Autolusso can now source them in different colours.

Should I do a Throttle Reset now it is fixed???
