It seems the way to go witha tune up on the 2.4jtd is with Alfatune but since I've moved south, that's not necessarily an easy option. Can anyone advise on the alternatives in the Buckinghamshire, Surrey neck of the woods or is it really worth making the journey??

Had a read up on a load of the other threads on here and MOT thing keep coming up as an issue with these tune ups but more importantly than that, possible clutch problems too because of the increased torque?? Anyone have any issues with this? Either of these actually...

My 1.9 was fettled at 60K, the clutch went at 96K. So pretty good all in all.
If you use the torque on the motorway and don't change down, you are naturally going to decrease the life of your transmission. A quick flick to 4th or 5th eases the strain through the system.
This is good practice as standard.

I'm still not sold on the longevity of the DPF removal etc. The car was designed to have the system in there, and removing it is possibly storing issues up for later, whether MOT or otherwise. There are several on here who have had an MOT since having these parts disabled/removed and all has been fine. But who knows what tomorrow brings.....

I'm sure the process makes the car a different/better beast. I'm just not convinced it is the way forward.

The remap on mine included a reworked DPF regen process, less aggressive. Have to say it has worked a treat in the 7K miles I've had the car.

Each to their own, and in all reality there probably won't be a long term issue, but...... Speaking to the specialist I use last week, he isn't convinced either. Time will tell for sure!

if you go to AHM, they'll remove the DPF undamaged and it's yours to take home and store it. so if you ever need to refit it, you're laughing. some other tuners leave the DPF in place but smash the insides out of it and disable it on the ECU. if you ever need to re-fit a dpf then you'll be looking at several hundred £ for a new one

if you do refit the dpf of course you'd also need the map altering again to enable regens

I've had an Alfatune map + DPF removal since about 60K, I'm now up to 88K and the clutch is fine <touches wood>. It's also been through at least 2 MOTs with no issues (last one in March).
As for "storing up issues", I'd say the reverse is true, no DPF problems (apart from finding somewhere to put it in the garage), no EGR issues as it's permanently closed and not doing anything. Basically there's less in the system to go wrong.

I had my 2.4 done recently at Angel Tuning @Banbury. Remap, EGR close off and DPF removal. I opted to have the innards removed and original pipe put back on. They cut the pipe, remove the internals, re-weld and pressure test.

The difference is huge. No rough start-up or idle. Lots of Power throughout the whole range and it is just a much nicer drive. And economy is up from 33 to 44 (brim-brim fills).

Would recommend having it done and agree with FX_munkee less issues as two of the main issues with the car have gone.
