Hello all,

Just bought another GTV twinspark, and working through a few little jobs...

But I cant find the heater fan relay!!

I've searched all the threads about a/c, heaters, etc and there is only 1 mention of it,
and on my car its not there! (and its not in the owners book either)

I've had the fan out, and is working from a 12v source, fuses all OK.
(not getting anything from the heater / air con circuit only rear demist)

Its not even working on full power so don't think its the resistor either...

Anyone know where this pessky thing is please...??

Steve

Thank you for getting back to me. At the risk of sounding dead thick, where on the fan do I connect an earth wire? only there is no sign of any connector on the other side of the fan to connect an earth wire to, and the only wires attached are the pink & orange ones. Fan was working normally until a week ago then just stopped.

Sorry, wasn't clear.

The pink wire should have 12v on it. The orange wire should go to the speed controller ( right next to the fan ). If you connect either end of the orange wire to earth, the fan should run at full power.

EDIT : Note : the speed controller has probably got two orange wires connected to it. On thick and one thin. It's the thick one you need if you're connecting that end to earth.

I'm not that surprised. That unit was off a car built in September 1999. The workshop manual says it has an access point to get at the expansion valve near the evaporator. Except, it doesn't. I know this because I looked very hard. And in the end I took the whole lot apart to have a look ( although I had a secondary reason which was to clean the evaporator and the airbox ). Got out a huge amount of leaves and stuff

The speed controller, wherever it is, should have the same wires though. Somewhere.

My speed controller hasn't arrived yet, so I still don't know if that was my problem...

I have tried running a fused 12v supply directly to the pink wire, and still no joy!
(basically bypassing the red power supply from the 30amp fused supply under the bonnet)

So I'm now hoping that the speed controller is the problem
(according two a couple of specialists I've spoken to, its a 99% chance that that's the issue!)

Hope so, cos' its too cold to be outside now!!

I have a 1996 Spider. One of the first ones imported into Canada. With our import rules the car has to be at least 15 years old. I love it!! Guys in Hot Rods pull up, slow down and give the thumbs up! No Alfa Romeo's around here!

I also had a heater/AC fan that did not work. I appreciate all the help here!

After checking all the fuses etc and even taking apart the fan speed selector switch, removing the fan etc to track down the problem to no avail!
Oddly enough my problem was with the yellow relay beside the fan motor. I thought these relays were usually quite durable and don't usually go bad!
I've got A/C and heat now!!!

Later!
