when you get a "basket case" in the alfa world, that is just what you get - a basket. IMO a 1000 pound step front would be no more than a donor car!
These cars are not as easy as an MGB to restore, so you would have to be very skilled to take one on as a basket case!...and like rcollie says parts are a LOT more than for an MGB. And things just do not bolt on like an MG, it is all double skinned panels, welding, complicated sills....
But if you are really a confident restorer, go for it!
