Gearbox problem - jumping out of 5th
Towards the end of a long motorway session yesterday, my 156 JTS 2.0 suddenly jumped out of 5th. It went back in with a small graunchy vibration in the lever, but as soon as I accelerated the lever physically pulled half out of gear. When decelerating, the lever would be pull back the other way "into" gear. Repeating the cycle results in it falling into neutral after 2-3 changes from acceleration to deceleration.
When I try and hold the gear lever in position as I accelerate, the force trying to pull it out of gear is very high so I haven't held it too tight.
Today, the same pattern. When selecting fifth it feels a graunchy with a small grinding/vibrating noise. Not good...
All other gears work fine, and there's been no problem up until yesterday, no whining or grinding noises. I'm hoping for the best, but think this could be a pricey one... Anyone experienced anything similar?
