Well I've had Alfie almost a month now and we have done just under 2,200 miles and nothing has dropped off, gone wrong or failed.
In that time I haven't had to top the oil either although I do check all levels every couple of days:thumbs:
I do know that the variator will need changing as it has the "diesel knock" but only for half a second if that... Be it grudgingly though as the cambelt was done only 8,000 miles ago
The car has behaved perfectly otherwise. I have been busy with "prevention is better than the cure" methods.
I cleaned my MAF (isopropryl alcohol) and also cleaned the throttlebody/butterfly (carb cleaner) and (wd40) for lubrication followed by a good wipe down.
All electrical contacts have been removed, cleaned and re-fitted. This included under the front seats for the pre-tensioner/airbag connections (ignition off)
I noticed the airbox lid was starting to lift due to one broken lug. The bolts had been changed on the last service though... A simple fix with two larger washers did the trick perfectly.
While cleaning the induction system I also noticed that the spring clips aren't really all that secure (no wonder mafs go so quickly). So I replaced with jubilee clips of the same size... The induction pipes from the throttle body all the way to the airbox top are solid and don't move at all now.
I reduced the length of the gear selector by a couple of inches and fitted a nice new carbon fibre gearknob... Alfie put up a hell of a fight with the old one though... So much so that I ended up with a fat lip from the old gearknob hitting me square in the mouth:lol: It was worth the pain though.
Oh and I changed the battery in the remote as it was starting to make me look wierd while trying different methods of opening the car, including walking round the car at tesco's with key in hand at different heights and angles:cheese: Yes, I did get funny looks.
I just noticed that there are far too many tales of misery in this section so I thought it might be refreshing to see post that is, well... different.
I know it won't be long before something does go wrong... But I tell ya what, I'm falling in love with the car more and more
