Washing machine works just fine, could try bunging in some of that waterproof coat wash-in suff to make them water repellant and then spray with scotchguard to keep the muck from sticking for the next couple of months.
If a washing machine is fine for trainers, jackets, bathroom mats, it'll be fine for car mats. The rubber on the bottom goes a bit floppy after a few washes but don't worry, they're not made of tissue paper.
