Can you damage your engine by over filling it with oil?? If so how??
Sorry if it apears silly to some, but I'd love to hear your views on it.

Escorts seem to get away with it. A girl at work here poured a big tub of oil in when her dipstick was a bit low. She was followed for the next few days by plumes of blue smoke and said it made a funny noise for a while. The car's still going.

First, the crank journals can “wisk” your oil into oil-foam.

The oil pump would pump foam = loss of oil pressure.

Secondly; your breather system will suck up oil making a mess of everything on the intake side.

That’s the blue smoke you see, most likely.

If the oil level is so high that it reaches the underside of the pistons and creates “hydraulic pressure”, you would pop the front and rear crank seals out.

Hope that makes sense

Best regards
Mike
