Gosh senile dementia is catching up fast.As I recalled the problems with the above springs but I forgot I had to heat Pomeos upper bolt thro the fork.
Must be getting blaise (or whatever it is) as I forgot one of my first rules which is
"Expect the unexpected."
I had expected serious problems getting the bolts out before but other than one minor stuborn one they all basically fell out.
As I was sure they came out easy.
I set aside an hours to change the nearside spring as with my previous experience it should have been a dawdle...Should have read this first.
All went acording to plan and was going to composite a series of photos showing step by step.
BUT the two bolts though the bottom fork just wouldn't come out.
I started about 0930 and by 1230 I had just managed to get the top bolt out as above with heat brute force and ignorance.(Malkying it with a hammer).
What would Chris Tarrant do....So I phoned a friend.Collected him and a hydraulic press (10 ton and 40 ton force adaptors) and even with that the bottom bolt just wouldn'y budge.This is the one which goes throught the bottom ball joint arm and they have always came out easy in the past.Well this one appears seized metal to metal in the rubber part of the bush. So I dont think heating would help .
I then recalled that some wise person had coated Laceys bolts with copper grease. I think I will do this to Pomeos..(Both sides) .
So my 1 hour job has taken all day and I am no further forward...Considering now cutting though the bolt at the inner sides of the bottom fork and replacing bolt and bottom arm.
Anyone else had this problem.
I thought that only Alfa did the springs but chic got me a
Lesjofors Part No 4000711
and it doesnt come with the plastic bit where the spring rots.Time will tell if this is better.
The spring saga continues...Now I know why I only replaced the broken one last time
