Dougie you won't be disappointed with the 1.6 Turbo Jano has as his demo car. I was luck enough to spend the weekend with it, when it was on lend to AO. The lighter front end meant the 215 tyres had plenty of grip. Just with the new bumpers and side skirts everyone's head was turning. The best bit was very Golf GTi trying to burn us off, there faces would have been a picture if you could have seen them afterwards. Overall the car is well balanced and the lighter front end would make even the 1.6 stiff competition for the GTA.

As for the strength of the engine afterwards, I hear Jano's driving is a demonstration of how strong they are.
