The original Examiner had the facility to read the code, but if they contact Alfa Italia they can get the code as there is a database that has the code, I've gotten mine that way before, there is also a large cabinet at ARUK with the code cards in that they didn't pass on to the customers because the UK insurance companies didn't want the owners to have them.
CODE cards yes...I do know people who have managed to get those via an Alfa dealer for ~£15 but as for the alarm codes I don't know anyone who has managed to get these and it hasn't been through lack of trying. There are a few threads on this and the other forum about the subject. Which dealer was it who managed to get yours?
Alfa UK have categorically stated that they only hold codes in their database for newer cars (IIRC someone posted up a reply email from ARUK). The 145's & 146's are too old and according to ARUK, codes for UK sold cars apparently weren't logged back in those days so aren't available. Maybe they're just being lazy and can't be arsed to call up the Italian HQ. Probably just easier (and more money to be made) by just telling customers they have to spend £600 on replacement parts
