Yeah, but it depends on the quality of the set you replaced - flat screen tech is still advancing rapidly year on year, so if it was a few years old, or (no offence) a bit of a naff set if the first place, any new set is going be a noticeable improvement. The new one being 1080P is a bit of a red herring; you can only truly benefit from 1080P if you have a 1080P source such as a Blu Ray player, and even then with a 40 inch you would have to sit no more than 4 foot away to notice it.
With SD sources the extra resolution is of no benefit whatsoever, but the more advance picture processing technology on the new set will make it look better.
