If you're on your own in the car, it can save a lot of time, especially if you have to alter your route. I usually look on the map before a strange journey though, and get it in my head 1st. If you always take the easy way out of course, you'd lose that skill!
It's a useful tool to have in your 'kit', so long as you don't stick to it slaveishly.
