I emailed Pininfarina asking about GTV build dates a while ago, and they said:

"I confirm you that Pininfarina designed, engineered and produced the Alfa Romeo GTV. The car was designed by Pininfarina in 1994 and the production was done by Alfa Romeo from 1994 to 2000 then from 2000 to 2004 Pininfarina took in charge the production. We did a restyling of this model in 2003."

So an '06 registered car was built in '04 and sat in a field somewhere for two years - I don't think it's that unusual, and certainly not isolated to Alfa.

no i dont think its that unusual, MGs would be a good example pretty sure there are still a few sitting around turning into rust

(my old MG ZR will be a good example
