Agreed, that is the plan, but Alfa "plans" for the US have come and gone in the past 20 years. We'll see if they actually follow through.
I can't afford a 8C, but would consider a lower priced model if the support system were there to make it a reasonable investment. I worry about driving the 164Q cross country, not because it's not reliable, but because if anything did break down, it would be several days at least until I received the part, much less found a place to replace it.
