Wen't to London (Stanmore) on Tuesday. 4 up, no luggage, average of 65mph = 27mpg.
I've had 30+mpg when I've stuck to all the speedlimits.
I usually get around 22mpg. The frightening thing is our 3.2V6 GT gives better mpg when driven on the same journeys

Thats the problem there isn't a great deal of difference between the 3.2V6 in the GT and the 2.2JTS, even the GTA's are similar. It really can't be all be down to weight, I think its something to do with the fuelling of the engine and emissions, weight wise I don't think there there is much difference between a 159/Brera and a petrol BMW 3 series.
The very slight ratio difference between 5th and 6th gears won't help, just not far enough apart.
Will be interesting to see how much lighter the new Brera 'S' will be and if it makes much difference to the mpg.
