Re: 156 V6 air con removal

Its not an ametuer job Pud as the system is pressureised with a polluting gas that is illegal to discharge...
I think the best answer is a different stat..
After doing my rad because the car was going just over 90 after a thrash, it never got up to anything like temperature, so I put a new stat in, and that keeps it running just over 70 now..Which isn't quite hot enough. No amount of abuse, or traffic will get it even close to 90 now, perhaps 80 in extreme cases, if you weren't so far away I'd suggest us swapping stats, even if only for a test to see if thats the problem.

In the '60's the Chevy engineers had issues keeping the Big Block engines (7.0) cool in the Corvette, extra insulation from a 'glass bonnet etc etc.
What they did was seal off with rubber all around the rad so any air going in to the grille had to go through the rad.
Another dodge from the yank boys is thermo wrap on your manifolds, basically it wraps around your manifold, and keeps the heat from the exhaust in the exhaust, this has the additional benefit of speeding up the gas flow in the exhaust, and releasing a few extra ponies as well.
This also helps with the temperature of the combustion air going onto the engine. Win Win
