Actually, if they keep the original V6 crankshaft the 3.8 liters must come from boring the engine block and fitting thinner liners. Therefore the stroke is the same (*) and the bore is wider, so the engine becomes seriously oversquare and revvy.
(*) I believe it is possible to increase the stroke keeping the same crankshaft if you fit different (eccentric?) crank pin journals.
