A 2.5 is a good compromise, I am chuffed to bits with mine, but I can see age and condition is a problem, what about a 2.4? Loads of power, available in the later cars, and the facelift front end is sooo nice IMHO, and a lot cheaper on fuel...
Only downside is the soundtrack, but you can't have it all ways.
Another sideways choice is to buy a cheap family car and keep the GTV for ever, for those selfish moments of pure fun?
