My 156 JTS engine has started to rattle from the cambelt side of the engine. Cambelt is fine and was changed about 12,000 miles ago. It is intermittant rattling and from what I've read and inquired, it leads me to believe that the variator may now need replacing.
Will driving it in its current condition affect the engine ( is it likely to make things worse) until I have the time to get it changed. Hectic bloomin sales job restricts me from getting it done till next week.
I've inspected the belt by taking off the wheel and cambelt cover and it seems in decent nick with plenty of tension. If the belt needed changing would it also rattle from that side?
Probably variator then. Its not a problem, but I would get it sorted once you can afford it. How long ago (in time) was it since you changed the cam belt?
Myself I have done that and my wifes car still has that diesel sound upon startup...and its maintained very well. When its due its due, but try exhausting all avenues first of course, changing the cam belts and variator is a semi big job.
