Re: 147GTA insurance write off
I have been though the exercise and had to rebuild the engine-I had to get another block as the damage from 2 broken conrods had cracked along the side and was risky to reweld. It can be rewelded as long as it is xrayed afterwards. The 3.2 is a standard 24v 3.0 litre block. I bought a 2nd hand motor and fitted new sleaves pistons camfollowers. I did the clutch, radiator, brakes and rebuilt the starter as well as it is fitted to the back of the motor. Cost in Oz $ is about $15k for all parts and labour to give a you a new motor. The Oz Alfa dealers want $29k for a new engine or $17 for a remanufactured. I recommend all 147GTA owners to look and understand where the air intake is to realise that driving through a puddle with high revs may cause you to own a throwaway engine. Attached are pics of the damage for your info.
