Don't you love it when you go to an olde worlde shop, which consists of some old guy sitting surrounded by products, and only he knows where everything is - and he blows the glitzy new guys out of the water? Especially because he's usually cheap as chips.

Tried one last place, of the type mentioned above. He didn't quite get my description, but on having a good look proclaimed that it was just an old fashioned strip fuse. Went and dug about in an unlabelled drawer amongst many other unlabelled drawers, and produced a small strip of metal, with little connectors at each end and a 60A sign scored into it. Cost me 50p.
Fitted it at home, and had no issues on the way back to work.
