Alfa 156

Re: Tuning Alfa 156 2.0 JTS

Well, I don't have any fond memories, I'm coming at this dilemma completely unbiased, as I grew up being a passenger in (really old) Jag XJ, BMW 7, a Daimler, etc, the first Alfa I drove was a 156 JTD and although I since have bought a V6 and prefer it, I still think the JTD suited the car down to the ground, just for slightly different reasons than the V6 does. I think the 2.4 JTD would suit the 166 even more so, it is a powerful, responsive (yes, throttle response post-remap is better than a lot of petrols I've drove), rev-happy and seriously torquey. The 2.4 JTD is definitely the 'touring' engine, and the V6s are more for performance and racing, for mundane day to day driving I'd be swayed by the JTD, and they do sound nice in their own way (except at idle)..

Weekend toy: Alfa 156 3.0 24v V6, Silver with red leather, Q2 diff, GTA Teledials, headlights & inlet manifold, AutoDelta carbon intake, BMC CDA, decat pipe and SuperSprint rear box, FK coilovers, Dastek Unichip - my 245bhp beast!

Gone but not forgotten: Alfa 156 2.4 JTD Veloce, Vela Blu, Angel 'mad map' & BMC CDA, Ferodo DS2500s - the fastest tractor in town!
