hmmm - now I've got some brick cleaning acid solution (about 18% hydrochloric iirc) and some pretty shabby looking wheel bolts. I wonder what'll happen if I put the two together?
Well - that's one done and a pretty good result I think. The bolts were never shiny, even from the factory but the coating of rust all over the heads is really unsightly, but I reckon about an hour dangling the hexagon heads only in the acid has returned them to what is probably their original factory look.

I need to look into something to "fix" the surface now to prevent future discolouring (if I keep repeating this I'm going to end up needing a smaller sized wheel brace) :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
On going back to the car - to do some more bolts I spotted that the cleaned bolt has started rusting already - it can only be half an hour since I put it on - I will definitely wait until I can get some kind of rust preventer on them.
Nice 1 alot better then being grubby black . What you need to do is dip them and when clean dip in water then dry them off quick with a hair dryer or heat gun then a quick spray with zinc silver the paint will dry instantly and they wont rust again and look like new

Thanks for that M. I may try that, first though I just ordered some Loctite Rust Cure off ebay (only £3.99) I'm going to try one with that - I understand it may turn them black (or maybe some other random colour) if it looks better than the the rusty ones I'll go with it.
