they work by increasing pressure to the injectors. The valve diverts fuel back to the tank at a higher threshold so more pressure is developed in the rail, hence bigger injector spray and for longer.

Will increase fuel consumption somewhat, but do work, just like the TDI tuning boxes that fool the fuel rail pressure sensor into thinking the fuel pressure is low, so the ecu ups the pressure and increases the fuelling.

Could theoretically cause injector leakage and lumpy running / surging at idle if the injector springs are weak but most are probably up to a moderate increase in pressure.
