Re: DIY PROJECT/STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE: modifying GT front repeaters to 'clear'

I now have clear front indicators as above, looks cool, well worth the effort. Can't believe Alfa haven't done this with their 'facelift' GTs.

One thing I struggled with was finding the replacement bulbs in amber. The bulb type listed in the user manual for the front indicators is PY21W, which was different from the H21W that shinycar listed so I double checked the actual bulb fitted and sure enough it is a H21W, so the user manual for the UK GT is wrong.

I tried 3 online bulb suppliers and also my local Part Co, and they could not supply the H21W in either clear or Amber, neither could they supply a suitable variant of the BA9S fitment. I remembered from my modeling days (cars and planes, not in front of the camera!) that Tamiya do a clear orange paint so I ordered some from Value Models & Miniatures (http://www.valuemodelsandminiatures....moreinfo=27221) and painted the clear bulbs. It worked perfectly and I also compared left to right indicators as shinycar did to check that the brightness was a suitable match. The only thing I am concerned about is that the bulbs get very hot, so I will check in a few days to see if the paint is standing up ok and not discoloring.

Cheers shinycar
