Q2 version of GT. Can V5C be trusted to confirm spec?

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum.

I looked at a GT 1.9 jtd 07 plate yesterday and it has a Q2 badge on it. It's possible that someone has bought a Q2 badge and pit it on a normal GT, which is what I'm trying to rule out.

I went through the cars paperwork and the V5C states it's the Q2 version, but there no other mention or paperwork referring to it.

Can the V5C name be trusted? I only ask as I've had a car with the wrong colour details on the V5C for years, so obviously it's possible for these docs to not be totally accurate. Can a V5C model description be used to confirm it's a Q2?

P.S. Does anyone know if Alfa sold the GT jtd with the Q2 already on the car, or is it a modification?

Let me know your thoughts :)

Thanks

The GT was sold in the UK with the Q2 trim which was fitted with a Torsen limited slip diff as standard. However it's now a common modification to add the limited slip diff to non-standard cars and many specialists offer this upgrade. Q2's have red stitched leather and 5-spoke alloys like in the picture. I have a Sport Q2 147 and the V5C describes exactly the correct trim so with regards to the documents it should be accurate.

Hi yes there were quite a few versions that came with q2 diffs from factory.

Firstly the aptly named GT Q2 special edition. Then it was a factory option on the blackline. And then the later Cloverleaf 170's that came standard with the Q2...And the clover SE's.

Quite a few GTs have had the Q2 fitted as an upgrade. Trust me it transforms the car. I owned a std GT and now my Cloverleaf with Q2, the difference is really something.

Did the car you see have red stitching on the seats and steering wheel? And have the alloys as in the picture?

Thanks both, that's really helpful.

Yeah, the interior was black with red stitching on the seats and steering wheel. The wheels were the same as in the picture too. It was also red, so looks virtually identical to the picture.

It's seemed in pretty good condition apart from the from suspension squeaking over speed bumps. I'm going to try and knock them down on price because of the front wishbone work that's needed. Also, it doesn't have heated seats - I loved the heated seats in my last GT! It'll be a shame to not have them again.

What's your opinion on what is a good price for a Q2 GT 1.9 JDT at 55k? The asking price is £6,000. Seams fair to me, but i'm not a gear-head, so it'd be good to get some others reactions to the price.

Cheers

Adam 6k is very good. The Q2 is a much sought after model. And by the sounds of the stitching and the wheels you have found one.

I am on second Adam the GT is really rewarding to own and more importantly drive. I have modified mine to quite a level now, and its not over. They have huge potential. As im sure you know.

Good luck mate i would honestly snap the Q2 up as low mileage examples off that special edition are few and far between. Plus the Q2 diff is a lovely thing to have from the get go.

Wishbones can be easily sorted, and replace with genuine Alfa, the cheap chinese stuff is not proven to last. I don't think the Q2 came with heated seats unless as an extra. And yes i must admit i love my heated seats...You know im sure its not rocket science to have it retrofitted?

Any more questions don't be afraid to ask.

6K is a very fair price considering the mileage and that the Q2 or quiafe is £700 as an upgrade.

as a guide a paid £5495 for my 07 blackline with 70k and have since mapped it added a quafie, eibach ARB's new clutch and flywheel and clutch slave cylinder.

total outlay around £7500

if I had seen yours at 6k when I was looking i would have bought it for sure...wishbones are easy to sort out.

go for it:thumbs:

Sorry to bring this thread back to life,i am thinking about buying a gt 170 q2 and have just read what to look out for in buying a factory fitted q2.My question to you experts is how do i find out if the car is fitted with a 170 hp engine ,is it on the documentation and is there something on/in the car to tell you ? Thanks in advance

There's a few things you can do to find out. You could give the reg to an Alfa dealership and they should be able to tell you. On my 147 there is a label on the drivers side door frame next to the door hinge which states the model number, trim and in brackets (150) so I would think the GT has one of these also. Also, cars fitted with the 170bhp JTDm at the factory were also given the red sport button located down by the handbrake next to the fuel flap button. Best of luck if you decide to buy, I like the GT too.

Hope this helps.

:tut: No that is not true for any torsen type LSD (Q2 / Quaife) it is only true for clutch based or locker LSD.

TorSen means it is Torque Sensitive - it will only show its teeth in a powered situation. Put is on a dirt road with ASR off and see if it makes two lines or put it around a round-about and see that it pulls in instead of understeer. Otherwise take a diveshaft out. If you can see a spindle it is open diff, if it is clear straight through the middle it is Q2, if it is blanked off it is Quaife
