I've had another look, or rather feel, and at about 50mm up from the bend before the pipe goes into the wheel arch the pipe turns horizontal and heads backwards towards the bulkhead. Just as it becomes horizontal there is another clip, which I can't see with any mirror I've tried, but as far as I can tell the pipe feels completely smooth. Is it at this second clip where the problem has been found? Is there a way of releasing the clip from the wheel arch (without having to take the engine out) to get a good look at the pipe?
